Easy - How To Make Baby Guinness and other easy shots

By

Sometimes you arrive at the bar thinking "Ooh, shots!", and the first thing you spot is the bottle of Tequila. At this moment your stomach makes it's first attempt to evacuate from your body, in sheer terror!

So you think, "I know, I'll have something fancy! Fancy tastes nice, right?"

Right.

But what to have? An Irish Flag? A B-52, or a Baby Guinness? Would you go through the effort of vodka jelly? Dare you try a Black Jack, or a Liquid Cocaine? What the hell are all these anyway? Also, what's the easiest way to make Jelly Baby Vodka?

Here's a short list of great shots, what's in them, and how to make them yourself.

The pourer and floating

*If you want to make these yourself, be sure that you have pourers for the liquors you use, it makes it easier to pour accurately, and float when necessary.

In the picture below is exactly what you'll need, you'll notice a stem coming from the bottom of the pourer, this is the air-pipe that allows the liquid to run smoothly out the top.

Where I have circled is where this air-pipe takes air in. When this is blocked the liquid will come out of the bottle much more slowly.

The practical use of this is that you can float liqueurs on top of each other with greater e.ase, because since they aren't coming out as fast they tend not to mix with the heavier liqueurs, this is essential for many shots such as the B-52 where you layer three spirits on top of each other

You only need hold your thumb over the air-pipe when you want to do this.

Baby Guinness AND B-52

These are both popular shots that are very similar to each other. Baby Guinness' have Tia Maria (or Kahlua) with Baileys Irish Cream floating on top. B-52's add Grand Marnier, an orange liqueur, to the mix.

To Make
Baby Guinness
2/3 Tia Maria,
1/3 Baileys floating on top.

B-52
1/3 Tia Maria
1/3 Baileys floating, (middle)
1/3 Grand Marnier floating (top)

*The Grand Marnier is lighter than the Baileys, so you can float it on top of the Baileys, this creates a 3 layered shot that looks and tastes great.

Rating

5 out of 5 stars from 1 rating of Baby Guinness

Slippery Nipple

Think CS Cowboy, with Sambuca and slightly harder to stomach.

To Make

2/3 Sambuca
1/3 Baileys floating

Cock Sucking Cowboy

Just like many full sized cocktails, many shot's have questionable names. Don't let that put you off, this is a nice, easy shot.

To Make
2/3 Butterscotch Liqueur
1/3 Baileys floating

Here's the easiest and quickest way to get Jelly Vodkas. You need a packet of jelly babies, a glass to fit them all into, and enough Vodka to cover them all.

Basically you stuff all your jelly babies into a glass, cup or bowl, depends how many you have. Then you fill it up with vodka, just enough to cover them. Leave them long enough for the vodka to soak up, 20 minutes or half an hour should do it.

That's it! When all the liquid is soaked up your jelly vodkas are ready! You'll probably need a spoon to eat them with...

Amazon Price: $15.99

Kamikaze

Vodka (use citrus flavored if you like) and Triple Sec with a drop of fresh lime juice on top make for a strong but easy to down shot.

Popular in many clubs and bars, this is actually Japanese in origin, with larger measures and ice it works as a full sized cocktail too. The origin of the name eludes me, perhaps it's a sign of how hard you go down after a few?

Cheer Up!

Some Gin, cos you're feeling down today? Nonsense! Gin is for everyday, and not just for breakfast any more! A much nicer shot than it looks. Cheer up! Chin Chin!

To Make
2/3 Gin
1/3 Blue Curacao (Fill to just below the rim)
Add a few drops of lemon juice to finish.

Irish Flag AND The Good, Bad, and the Ugly

This is slightly more difficult to make than some other layered shots, its also one of the stronger shots listed, the GBU is as hard to make, but much easier to drink, apparently.

To Make
Irish Flag

1/3 Creme de Menthe (Peppermint Liqueur)
1/3 Baileys floating (middle)
1/3 Whiskey or Brandy floating (top)

I recommend Whiskey, because Baileys is also made out of it, also because it adds a bit more Irish to the mix!

The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly
1/3 Apple Liqueur
1/3 Yoghurt Liqueur floating (middle)
1/3 Cointreau or Grand Marnier floating (top)

Liquid Cocaine

A potent half and half mix of Jagermeister and Goldschlager. If you want to get the party started- down one of these. If you want to bring your party to an abrupt halt;

  1. Have several.
  2. Die

Blackjack

Half Black Sambuca and Half Jack Daniels as a shot can call for a sprint to the nearest toilets sometimes (or if you're so inclined the nearest floor space. The closer to your shoes the better, you dirty bugger). It's a bit rough on the stomach, but well worth it if your night needs some new colour. Dinner coloured.

Pollen

A strange looking mix on paper knowing that Frangelico is hazelnut liqueur, but it's actually pretty good!

To Make
Half Vodka
Half Cointreau
a drop or two of Frangelico..

Woo Hoo

A shot form Woo Woo, nice, and pretty easy to down.

To Make
2/3 Vodka
1/3 Peach Schnapps (leaving just enough room for a small drop of cranberry juice and juice from one wedge of lime)

Shove that up your man-arse!
Shove that up your man-arse!

After Eight

Yeah you guessed it, it's a alcoholic version of those after dinner mints, personally, I hate those mints. The shot however is acceptable.

To make
2/3 Creme de Menthe
1/3 Baileys Irish Cream floating

Stoli

(Almost) last, but certainly not least, I give you Stoli.
Stoli is the house vodka in the bar I currently terrorise. In it's blue bottled form it weighs in at 50% (or 100-proof), and when it's chilled to below zero, you really couldn't tell.

To Make
100% Stolichnaya Blue chilled to about -3 degrees, home freezer temperature should do.

To Drink
Run away!

WARNING
Have no more than two. You won't think anything's happened, but you will invariably wind up talking absolute crap, and your legs may cease to function. It's ok though, for given that you're a man (or woman) of reasonable temperament, you won't care much. It'll all be just swell.

I am actually a Tequilla lover, my favorite is a shot of Cactus Juice, anyway great hub thanks for the drink ideas!

It took me a while to come around to Tequila after the first disastrous few shots of it so I spent ages finding shots with which I could do more than look at. Now I just don't drink it very often because it's a little bland, at least the make we get at the bar i work in is.

Thanks for the comment!
